Steel Manning Vaccines

This week, Nic wants to steel man vaccines.

Let’s be honest. We struggle with this one! Is it possible to steel man the arguments for vaccinating the entire population (including people who have had it and are now immune) without steel manning authoritarianism? We certainly give it the old college try along with making a few predictions about what will happen in the future.

Gamers – will they save us?

This episode Andrew wants to talk about something close to his heart: Gaming.

More specifically, he wants to talk about gamers, as they have been in and out of the media for the past few years. We start by talking about games themselves and what they entail, to give you an idea of the type of person they attract. We then move on to Gamergate and, more recently, the GameStop hedge fund affair.

Can Andrew convince Nic, his relatively black pilled brother, that there is hope? Will Gamers save us from SJWs and the evangelical left?

I’m Forever Blowing Covids

This week, we’re back talking about the only game in town: the ‘rona.

We discuss the ridiculous behaviour of a new phenomenon: “leapers” and relay information about how well the new vaccine centre around the corner from Sounding Board HQ is doing. Spoiler: not very. We also discuss covid centrism, as well as applying it to Elliott’s Law to see if it still holds up. Andrew also predicts that kids blowing bubbles will soon be banned (or at least it will be called for).

Finally, we talk about the zero covid muppets and how they are precisely wrong about everything.

Cancel Culture

Speak to anyone on the evangelical left, and they’ll tell you that cancel culture doesn’t exist. They’ll maintain that cancel culture is merely just consequences. That people are simply being held to account for things that they are saying or doing. And by holding them to account, they’re only using free speech.

But the question is “Are these consequences proportionate?”

Is it a valid outcome to be fired from your job for stating that, for example, “Women are adult human females”?

And how far does cancel culture go? Does it just affect celebrities and big names? Or is it something that we all should worry about?

Elliott’s Law

This episode, we discuss Elliott’s Law, which Andrew has just created:

a) In politics, respect only flows one way: in the direction of statism.

People more statist than you are always “misguided”, people less statist are always “dangerous”.

There’s this idea that a little (or a lot) more state than what you prefer, is always far better than ever so slightly less.

b) The more you are demonised by people more statist than you, the more you demonise people less statist.

In this respect, objectivists are no better than any other socialist. In fact, they’re often worse.

We also discuss technocracy, which Nic has been investigating. Are technocrats the ultimate hard centrists?

The Sounding Board Christmas Message

In this season of festivity and joy, it’s time for the Sounding Board Christmas message.

Will it be a message of hope for the future? Will we be encouraging others to “stay safe” and keep away from Granny?

Don’t be silly. In this special Christmas edition of Sounding Board Nic keeps it very simple, and rather brash, while Andrew offers advice on how to make sure the true meaning of Christmas is kept even in these dark times.

We also argue over what makes a Christmas film as Andrew shares his definitive list of “Proper Christmas Films”. Do you agree?

Thanks for being a loyal Sounding Board listener this year. We really appreciate it.

Have a cracking Christmas and we’ll see you in 2021.

The Covid Christmas Cancellation

The government found just the excuse it needed – a new strain of the coronavirus – to lockdown in all but name and cancel Christmas for a huge swathe of rhe country.

We talk about the rules of Tier 4 and how it was announced, and whether there needs to be a new scientific discipline for analysing and predicting what government will do next.

Does there need to be a new term for those that have always opposed these government restrictions, and what about those that have woken up from the brainwashing?

The Covid Casedemic

As England heads toward a return to the Lockdown tiering system and out of the 4 week November national Lockdown, we discuss how meaningless the numbers are that have driven us this far.

How exactly to do you count false positives with the now ubiquitous PCR test for SARS-CoV-2?

Does the recent Chinese study really show that asymptomatic people don’t spread the disease, or is this yet more bad science?

We talk about whether or not it’s likely that someone infected can spread it at all if they don’t know it and Andrew explains that a mask won’t prevent you from breathing in particles from Julius Caesar’s last breath, never mind the germs from someone six feet away.

Finally, after sharing stories of real people who have suffered and died due to the government’s handling of public health in 2020, Nic leaves us with one vital pearl of wisdom that might just help us get through it with some sanity.

US Elections, Social Media And The Desperate Corporate Press

After a brief hiatus (circuit break?) due to work commitments, we’re back, and we’re raring to go.

This time, we talk about the recent US Election. We discuss the results and whether they appear, on the face of it, to be slightly dodgy. We then discuss the corporate press (legacy media), fact checkers and the way things have changed, even over the past few years.

We finish with a recent experience Nic has with being banned from Twitter for saying mean words to someone who was in on the joke and found it funny. Strange times.

Whisky, Free Speech and Discrimination Law

After receiving our first ever gift from a listener of a bottle of scotch, Andrew explains how whisky is made and what makes a good one.

We then talk about free speech and whether it’s ever right to have any restrictions on it.

The Darren Grimes incident of the last week shows just how far the police are willing to overreach on this front, but is it right that we even have laws on incitement?

Are there really any free speech absolutists? Does anyone ever argue from a point of principle?

And how does the Equalitys Act 2010 have relevance to the choice of lockdown and whether the government can adopt Focused Protection, as advocated by the Great Barrington Declaration?

Would locking down only the old and infirm have been unlawful? Was that a serious factor in why lockdowns have been regional and not based on age?
