The List

In our recent podcasts, there have been a few recurring themes.

One of these themes has been the “cock up or conspiracy” question, as there are still many who believe that everything bad since 2020 has been the result of mistakes, of one well intentioned but ultimately disastrous policy after another.

In the last episode, we suggested writing a list of everything that happened, for us to remind ourselves of just how much damage has been done. So we both went away and added policy after policy, regulation after regulation to a shared list. Soon, it was staggeringly long.

In this episode, we go through that list.

We ask ourselves just how many of these catastrophes in a row have to happen, before the blue pilled will admit, that something slightly sinister is afoot? And is there a special category of policy, those that are not only wrong, but completely the opposite of what should have happened, and is one of these enough to imply a sinister motive on its own?

What Will You Tolerate?

You might think that at least some regulation is needed to prevent sub standard goods entering the market place. Possibly you think that the state is the only mechanism for courts, the police and… roads.

How many bad things can the government do before you say no?

How many lives have to be destroyed by lockdowns?

How many wars need to be started?

How many children need to be starved to death in Yemen?

Why doesn’t SAGE model positive scenarios?

In a rare moment on twitter, the head of modelling for the government’s SAGE committee admitted that it would be essentially pointless to model positive outcomes of covid this winter, and that actually it’s policy makers that decide what to model.

We discuss that decision making process and how it’s only designed to go in one direction.

Nic thinks this is one of many examples where the tide is starting to turn, but will a good old fashioned lockdown be enough to dissuade people again?

Changing One Thing About the State & The Dominance of the Left

What would it be? Not abolish the state entirely, but make one change to it and the way it works.

Would it be simple and maybe cliché and just privatise the NHS, or would you want to abolish state education?

How about the way we pay tax? Or how we deal with private property?

The discussion then turns to whether or not the political left have dominance over the right. Why do right wingers cede ground to the left all the time, and is it just a one way street?
